Wednesday, March 10, 2010 JONES, William JONES, William (Bugsy) passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 5th, 2010 at the age of 81 years. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Stan, and is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara, his four children, Gail Hill (children Barbie, Mike & Kelly), Bob Jones (wife Shelley & children Brittany & Alex), Terry Harding (husband Don & children Keith & Julie) & Laurie Jones (partner Tom O’Reilly & children Dave & Teri Shortreed), sister Eileen Baldwin, brothers Bob & Bruce Jones and seven great-grandchildren. Bill was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1929. At the age of 16, he left his hometown to play professional hockey in the American league, where he was named MVP of the Springfield Indians in 1951-52. Bill then moved to Kelowna to play for the Packers in 1955, who were inducted into the Central Okanagan Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. After having children, Bill worked as a steel worker on the Okanagan Bridge and as the story goes, told his kids he built it all by himself. In 1968, he bought Lakeview Market. Until the day he left for his annual winter holiday in Hawaii, he still loved to greet his customers and take out their groceries. Friends and family will remember Bill for his unrelenting generosity, his great sense of humour and most of all, the way he would greet everyone he knew with his big smile, quick wit & boisterous laugh that will echo throughout the walls of Lakeview Market forever. He loved hard & was loved hard back by his friends, his Lakeview Market family (and they were his family) & most of all his wife, children & grandchildren. When God made this man, He truly broke the mold. Bill was one of a kind. We will miss him dearly. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Kelowna Golf & Country Club on Tuesday, March 16th, 2pm-5pm for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Children’s Hospital BC, c/o Tribute Program, 938 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 4H4.
